What this wasThe story
From the middle of 2025 posters on TikTok and X began calling things they found soulless, fake or commercially hollow “spiritually Israeli” — a matcha party in Dubai, pop stars, a baseball team, Labubu dolls, Dubai chocolate — usually with no connection to Israel at all.
By May 2026 JTA was reporting on Jewish teenagers who could not keep it out of their feeds, some of whom had stopped wearing visible Jewish symbols. Some Israelis took it up ironically, to tease their own culture.
Why it matteredWhat changed
Most people who use it present it as a joke about authenticity. Jewish writers, and teenagers interviewed by JTA, describe the old stereotype of Jews as greedy and deceitful with “Israeli” put where “Jewish” used to be.
