Footage from Turkey's March 2025 demonstrations showed a protester in a complete Pikachu suit sprinting ahead of advancing police lines.

The absurdity did the work that a placard could not: an image that is funny before it is political travels through audiences that would scroll past the political version.

Reappeared as costumes and printed posters at later demonstrations, and became the shorthand image for the whole protest wave.
