What this wasThe story
A YTMND is a web page with exactly three parts: a tiled or centred image, a looping sound file, and huge text zooming toward the viewer. Nothing else. Max Goldberg registered yourethemannowdog.com in 2001 after hearing Sean Connery deliver the line in a trailer for Finding Forrester, and put the phrase up in zooming 3D text over the audio loop. In April 2004 he opened YTMND so anyone could make one.
Goldberg announced in 2016 that the site could no longer fund its own hosting, and a catastrophic database failure in 2019 was widely reported as its death. It came back in 2020 with the archive intact and rebuilt for HTML5 — one of the very few sites of its generation to survive Flash's removal rather than be lost with it.
