What this wasThe story

Every morning Jonathan Graziano lifted his elderly pug Noodle into a sitting position and let go. If Noodle stayed up, it was a bones day: get things done, ask for the raise. If he flopped back into the bed, it was a no bones day: rest, cancel, be gentle with yourself. He filmed the result and posted it.

Noodle was formally honoured by the New York State Senate in November 2021 and became the subject of a children's book. He died in December 2022 at fourteen, and the obituaries ran on CNN and NPR — for a pug whose entire public role was falling over.

Why it matteredWhat changed

A sports team, a rock band and a state governor referred to it, and a state senate issued a proclamation about him.
